I’ve always been a big fan of Dr. Oz – although I have to admit I haven’t had a chance to TIVO his new show. I try to log onto his website frequently to see what topics he’s discussing and I was elated to see Dr. Oz address food allergies, symptoms and how to use the EpiPen during a recent episode.
You can see the Warning Signs of Food Allergies video posted below.
Dr. Oz’s nose plug and tube demonstration showing the quick and potentially fatal impact an allergic reaction can have on someone was smart. You don’t have to live with an allergy to understand how scary it would be to struggle to breathe like that.
In the video, Dr. Oz tells the volunteer to hold the Epi-Pen like a pencil. I just wish he would have suggested that people grasp the Epi-Pen instead of holding it like a pen or pencil.
Thankfully I’ve never had to use one, but I’ve learned through conversations with our doctors, training material, talks with other moms and practice runs using oranges, grasping the Epi-Pen gives you more control over how the medicine is injected.
Nevertheless, I’m happy to see someone like Dr. Oz bringing awareness to the issue.
